Just another Sunday

I have been busy this weekend, organising all my artwork, trying to put together a respectable portfolio of my work to date! I have also been trying to get my business card done, it is always the worst doing it for yourself! Do you know how many others I have designed for clients! It's ridiculous!

So I procrastinated a little bit, and mucked around on photoshop. see above pic. Listened to many records, on high rotation were, Simon and Garfunkel, Dr.Hook and Blondie. This weekend I have been playing non stop the following tracks in no particular order-

I read my Frankie thoroughly, and also started on Juxtapose. I am dreaming of the weekend already, and it's SUNDAY! Something tells me this is going to be a long week ahead...

Everybodys making it big but me.

I know how that feels.

Making it in anything be it fashion, music, art - seems to be a bit of a struggle. I often wonder how one makes it big? As a illustrator and graphic designer, I know first hand that getting out there and becoming recognised is somewhat difficult. But I wonder how much more difficult it is for bands! It's really sad to think that there is so much talent out there going unnoticed.

Triple J unearthed do their best to uncover new bands, but some still slip through the cracks. Coming from a smaller town, I see the struggle of artists trying to make it, having no real support behind them. Local band the Truants have managed to get some exposure, you may have read an article in JJJ Mag about them. There are so many contributing factors, like limited funds, having to work jobs not being able to focus ultimately on the music. I really respect artists who have passion and drive and are sticking to it.
You can hear some of their stuff here.
The Truants
This band supported the gig for little scout and josh pyke on the weekend. Let me just take the time to tell you how unbelievable the Josh Pyke gig was. It was intimate, he was fantastic, playing almost everything I had hoped for. My friend and I sat back on our cushions, but not for long as we were soon dancing along to every one of his songs from make you happy to private education. I was lost in his music, in my own little frame of mind. It was really special, and a night I won't forget any time soon.

The Middle East
were doing sound at this event, and let me tell you this is a band to watch. Being announced to play splendour in the grass 09, this group are doing particularly well for themselves. I really encourage you to check out their stuff, I am lost for words of how to describe them. 'Blood' in particular is beautiful. So do yourself a favour and check them out.

While I'm here I may as well plug these other bands I have discovered along the way. I love discovering new music, especially music that I don't hear on commercial radio that is played 5million times a day. Yes I am one of those angsty commercial radio haters. hehe I'm not really angsty, just have a real passion for real music.

Ryan Giles

The Novocaines

Little Scout
How cute are these guys, their music is so sweet, and the bits with the tinkering of the xylophone always puts a smile on my face. Relatively new to me, it was really lovely to see them live in the weekend.

Click and listen for sweet things to fill your ears.
Go make a bands day, check them out and leave comments for them, or request them on jjj. I think a little goes a long way.

Well this has been a marathon post, but lately I have been thinking about the music industry and everything related.

If you have any bands you would like to suggest to me, I would love that!

Until my next blog,

Last on the bandwagon

I usually am, but this is still hilarious!

I was at my friends house last night, doing some sketching and watching spicks and specks, its a bit of a ritual. We sat through all of Australias got talent, over to spicks and specks, all through the gruen transfer and then on came 'choose your own adventure'. I was like 'hey that guy looks familiar' and sure enough we flick to frankie magazine and find he is a contributing writer..

Basically its a show about lawrence leung, who films his adventures of different sorts. Last night was his adventure to 'be cool'. Oh it's funny, it's one of those things you will either love or hate. But check it out.

Have a great Thursday! Friday tomorrow wee Josh Pyke and the weekend!

Tilli's Picks

With the arrival of the Splendour In The Grass line up this morning, I have been immersing myself in music. I have been checking out a lot of new bands of late. I got to the stage where I had nothing on my trusty ol' Ipod that I really wanted to listen to. So I got on the net and starting hunting down some new music.
I have been following this
blog for a while now and his top picks basically summed up my own! Definitely worth having a listen.

While I was delving into the big world wide web, I found some other bit's and pieces along the way like this blog. Supplying pretty and interesting things for your eyes to see.

Friday night brings me to my next point, a friend and myself will be off to see the ever so lovely Josh Pyke. I have seen a set of his when he supported the john butler trio, but not on his own tour. So it shall be lovely, to see a full set of his. I am taking along my dig SLR in hope of getting some nice shots. I have been a bit reluctant taking it anywhere, as I'm scared something bad will happen! But I realise I got it for the purpose of improving my photography skills and focusing on band/gig shoots so therefor I am taking it!

I found an amazing photographer who does exactly what I want to do! Her pics are amazing, from bands to nature (especially the Byron Bay shots) I was so happy I stubled across her work. Very talented. cybele malinowski

Below a shot of hers for josh pyke

More on the photography point Monster Children have started a project calling for photographer from all around the world to simply take a pic at exactly 3pm on Saturday. It's a really cool idea and I might even take a snap myself..(knowing me I will forget!) Thanks to lovely Daydreamlily for notifying people like me about it!

My new love, I spend way too much time here.

I am here

But only just.

I have lost all track of time, my head is in a whir. Today feels like a Monday, a bad Monday at that. The come down from a holiday is always so terrible. Your left wanting to be anywhere but where you started. I miss the beach, the cafe's and the shopping. I miss the 11am bottles of champagne and the spontaneous tequila shots. I do not miss the headaches.

I am too tired to function, I want to place my head on my keyboard and sleep. After over an hour flight delay last night, I am so unbelievably tired, and am unsure how I made it into work today. All I crave right now is my bed.Coffee is my companion today.

Holidays come back soon.

longer more photo filled blog soon, when my brain is not mush and my eyes a little less blurry.

I'm glad Mondays gone...

Yesterday was a terrible Monday
Recap : I am in the process of ironing my pants, dawdling along as I do. Until a thought enters my mind and I freeze. I realize I am already late for an important meeting! I manage to scramble together all my gear whilst telling 3 separate people on the phone that yes I will be there, and will come quicker if I can get of the phone! Amazingly I encounter little to no traffic and am there only 15 mins late! Yesss I tell myself, hoping to sneak in unseen. I grab the closest chair possible, only to realize I sat in my managers chair while he was up the front speaking. So much for thinking I was getting away with it! He came back to reclaim his chair, but sitting beside me, once he realised it had a new occupant!
Monday really sucked.

Looking back today it is funny, but I just hate those dreaded feeling of being late and possibly getting into trouble.

However I go to here fmylife and think it could be much worse, much much worse.

BUT..In more exciting happy news, I'm jetting off tomorrow for my little holiday! So I wont be blogging till next week! However it will make for a more exciting blog than this one, I promise!

Time now for a cup of tea and to get stuck into this work so I can have a carefree time away! Can't wait!

Have a Great Easter lovelies.

Happy Friday!

Finally Friday! And if your anything like me, you have been waiting for this day all week!

I had a great drive this morning to work, I look forward to Friday mornings to listen to Like a version on JJJ. It's like a highlight of my week! SIA was on this morning, she is so cute, I was smiling the whole way to work. She did a Temptations cover I think? It was nice anyway.

My mission tomorrow is to buy some new cd's. On my list at the moment is:

I intend to buy just these 3, but I know I will come out with 5 or so more!

I'm eagerly anticipating the new album of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's

And I found out last night that Simon and Garfunkel are touring! I would really love to go, and take my old man I think he would appreciate it. I have one of their records and have always loved their music. I wonder how ridiculously expensive tickets will be though?!

Well I hope your Friday is going quick, mine seems to be!

This is my thought of the day -

The List..

Sometimes I can get a little bit down with whats happening in my life. I'm trying to change my ways of thinking, trying to kick the negativity and focus on good things in my life. Today has been a bit of a blah day, so I have been encouraging myself with events and certain things BIG or small that are going to be happening soon or in the next few months. It makes me happier to look forward to nice things. You should try it too!

Here is my list.

1. In a week I will be traveling to the sunshine coast. I will get to go to the Eumundi markets and visit where my parents used to live when they were crazy hippies 30 years ago!

2. Josh Pyke concert! Oh I really cannot wait, It's at an intimate place and I am taking my SLR and hope to get some awesome shots!

3. Splendour in the grass! It is a while off, but honestly is the best couple of days! Such and adventure and good times. Here's fingers crossed to tickets. Check out this shot of me la
st year! Really crazy times!

4. Biggest camping trip of the year, Its basically a big reunion with mates from back home. You camp, drink and cause mischief basically.

5. This weekend. I get to relax, draw, watch movies, and know I don't have to be anywhere do anything. Just relax!

6. Sunday, cheese and wine day.

7. Soon I will be going up home to see the folks and my dog, plus old mates. I love trips home, I miss my family a tonne. It's been 4 and 1/2 years since I have moved and I still miss it!

8. The Melbourne comedy fest, it will no doubt be hilarious and make me laugh so that's always good! And possible the carl barron tour. enough said!

9. Sunday is also coffee and cake day, a day where my flat mate and I escape our other flatemate and eat cake. He does not let us, becuase we are health freakos now, so it's the one day where we do someting naughty. I hang out for this day!

10. 5pm everyday. When I retire at home and get to unwind. I look forward to this very much.

11. 12.30, is lunch. I have lunch everyday with the same 2 people, its a guranteed laugh. They are heaps of fun.

12. Tuesdays = Yoga days. Love it, also means flat mate makes palak paneer. wich is yummo. with naan! yes!

That is about all I can think of off the top of my head now, but I'm sure I could write more!

Go and make your own list and think of the great stuff your going to be doing! Even if today seems a bit boring!
